Ecommunity is an electronic waste recycling factory that employs people with special needs. In January 2013, Ecommunity was recognized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection as the first accredited recycling body for electronic waste in Israel.
In 2017, Ecommunity established Advanced Ecology for Sheltered Communities for the express purpose of developing a new service which allows for the recycling of electronic waste at the customer’s location and without the need to transport the waste to another facility. This is extremely important for the recycling of sensitive, military grade electronics.
A new machine was purchased in Italy and arrived to Israel in April, 2018. After testing, the machine was approved for use by the Ministry of Defense and the venture won a tender of the Ministry of Defense for large scale recycling. Workers with special needs, some of whom were employed in the past by Ecommunity, were hired to work in the company and will be promoted to minimum wage employment.
