IVN’s Shirley Katzir wins the Leonore and Larry (z”l) Zusman-JDC Prize

We are thrilled to announce that IVN supported entrepreneur Shirley Katzir, founder & director of the Eden Association, was recently announced as one of the three proud recipients of the prestigious 2013 Leonore and Larry (z”l) Zusman-JDC Prize. shirley-katzir1
The Leonore and Larry (z”l)  Zusman-JDC Fund for Excellency in the Field of Human Services in Israel was established through the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) to encourage and recognize individuals or groups for their excellence, innovation, originality, and initiative in the implementation of programs in the field of social services in Israel. The Fund provides $75,000 annually for the Leonore and Larry Zusman-JDC Prize ($25,000 for each of the three recipients).
The Prize, which was awarded in 2013 for the eleventh time, highlights awareness of the important role of voluntary and governmental social services and recognizes those who help the less fortunate members of Israeli society.
Prize recipient Shirley Katzir, founded the Eden Association in 1997 to develop educational and social projects in the Negev. The IVN supported venture Cinderella, under the umbrella of Eden, is a program to empower women through employment and education in the Negev. Cinderella, a domestic help service company which provides transportation, pays a fair wage, and provides social benefits & insurance for its employees, plans on truly changing the social landscape of the Negev. The Cinderella employees work four days a week and on the fifth day they learn a profession, in accordance with training programs and courses offered by the Ministry of Industry, Trade & Labor.
